In this episode of Good News for Lefties, host Beowulf Rochlen delivers a refreshing dose of optimism as we approach the midterm elections. Kicking off with a significant victory for absentee voters in Montana, a state court blocks a burdensome birth date verification requirement, ensuring that valid ballots from individuals with disabilities won't be rejected on technicalities. This ruling highlights the importance of accessible voting for all.
Next, we celebrate a win for environmentalists as a federal judge temporarily halts the Trump administration's border construction plans in the Big Bend region, emphasizing the need to respect legal protections and the environment. In a surprising twist, we discuss how more Republicans are distancing themselves from Trump, recognizing his unpopularity as a potential liability in the upcoming elections.
On the infrastructure front, the long-awaited tunnel project between New Jersey and Manhattan is finally underway, promising to modernize travel and enhance rail capacity for the future. We also shine a spotlight on Seattle's groundbreaking ordinance banning algorithm-based grocery pricing, ensuring that all customers receive equal treatment at the register.
Lastly, a Rhode Island judge revives a crucial solar energy grant program, demonstrating a commitment to renewable energy and accessibility for low and moderate-income households. Join us for these uplifting stories and more, as we highlight the positive changes taking place across the country. Don’t forget to share this episode with your friends to spread the good news!
